In Mourning – A Poem by Sunil Sharma

Each flake is a
slender
brush tip

dipped
in
the virgin silver,

applied horizontally
vertically

across
a gloomy sky, earth,
thick layers of light-dark
greys, cold-pressed,

the

beautiful streaks glowing
on dusky
faces
of
the two lovers, in exile.

The snow is also a dirge— claim the displaced
children of the vanishing greens and rain forests.

The visitor from the hoary Far North
sad and
tearful,

the tiny drops turn things, beings
into pure white, as the rough wind
moans
outside, the sighs of the bereaved.
