Face of Desolation – A Poem by Sunil Sharma

Broad sweeps
of
thick grey.
Threads and
arcs
of
the light grey.
They nest
in each other; curled figures of mother-baby.
Hung over the deep-scarlet sea,
a
scroll of
vivid circles, in the upper corners
of
the blue sky, darkening by seconds.
Transient whirlpools. Inlets of sea. Silhouetted thickets, far-off.
Birds bring motion
to
the violence
of
reds
raw, intense.
—Silence over the valley.
