Like Many Who Came Before – A Poem by David Dephy

We can’t erase the memories of our lone selves.
We know what’s inside us—we are the puzzle.
Our stories move like many who came before:
nameless, forgotten, or crowned—it doesn’t matter.
The winds still carry the soldiers’ trumpet call.
Archangels circle through the skies, their hands
reaching out to break the fall—every leaf,
every second. But who can say
what’s possible with our only hope,
our only wish—to move time backward?
