Changing the Color of My Walls – A Poem by Carol Gilman

I thought that
painting the walls
in a bright and cheery yellow,
A color they said,
Would look and feel happy,
Like summer all year round,

Would lift my mood,
Would change my outlook,
Would change my life.

But it didn’t.
I’m still the same.
And now I have walls
In a color
That reminds me of that.
